Implied Volatility
Options
Implied volatility is backed out of option prices and shows how much volatility the market expects in a stock over the coming period, quoted as an annualized percentage.
As options get more expensive, implied volatility rises. It usually climbs ahead of uncertain events such as earnings and often drops quickly once the event has passed.
