How It Is Calculated

What the Result Needs

  • Buy: Symbol, Quantity, Date, Price
  • Sell: Date, Price, Quantity
  • CBRT Rates for Both Days
Fills the same trade into the calculator; the result uses real CBRT rates.

How It Is Calculated

The calculator does these six steps for you; you only enter your trades. Figures follow the rules of tax year 2026.

  1. Enter Your Trades

Type in the buy and the sell or upload your statement; the file never leaves your device. A sale is matched first in, first out against the oldest buy.

  2. Convert at the CBRT Rate

Cost uses the CBRT buying rate of the buy date, proceeds the sell date's, dividends the payment date's. The FX gain is taxed too; commissions reduce the gain.

  3. Index with the PPI

If the PPI rose 10% or more from the month before the buy to the month before the sell, cost is indexed; only on a profitable sale, and the gain drops to zero at most.

  4. Add Up Gains and Dividends

Gains and losses within the year offset each other; stock sales have no exemption. If capital income without withholding exceeds the 2026 threshold of ₺22,000, all dividends are declared.

  5. Tax by Bracket

The tax base runs through the schedule: 15% up to ₺190,000, 40% in the top bracket. US withholding (20% with a W-8BEN, 30% without) is credited against the tax on that income.

  6. File in March

2026 income is declared in March 2027 on the Hazır Beyan system; the tax is paid in two instalments on 31 March and 31 July.

W-8BEN tells the US you are not a US tax resident. With it, the US-Turkey treaty caps dividend withholding at 20% for individuals; without it, 30% is withheld. Form 1042-S shows the tax withheld during the year and supports the credit in Turkey; compare the calculator's rate with the rate on that form.

There is no regime change for 2026 in how direct foreign stock gains are taxed: they are still declared on the annual return. What changed: the brackets were updated (first bracket 190,000 TRY), the dividend filing threshold rose to 22,000 TRY, the ownership test for the foreign participation exemption fell from 50% to 20% (Presidential Decree 11257; irrelevant for portfolio investors), and withholding on hedge funds changed (Law 7566 and a 27 March 2026 decree). Research is as of September 2026.
