Why These Companies

This list is not hand-picked. Members of the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Dow Jones whose line of business is not excluded are ranked by market cap, the debt and cash ratios of the largest are measured with the same rule as the Shariah screen on our stock pages, and those that pass the pre-screen are listed here. The ratios come from quarterly balance sheets, so the list stays the same on most days; a company close to a threshold can move in or out as the price changes.

The 40 largest index members by market cap were screened; the largest 20 that pass the pre-screen are shown.

This Is Not a Religious Ruling. It is an automated pre-screen based on the line of business and AAOIFI's widely used financial thresholds; a final judgement rests with your own school of thought and the certification boards that audit the filings. The interest-income test (5% of revenue) needs a revenue breakdown our free data source doesn't provide, so that criterion isn't screened.

The list is an editorial selection, not investment advice. It is sorted by market cap; companies whose primary listing is outside the US are left blank because their market cap is not comparable.
