What It Shows
Seven of 11 sectors closed higher to start the week, with the technology fund leading at 1.69% while communication services fell 1.57%. Hardware and chip-design names drove the tech bid: Lumentum rose 8.19%, Arm 6.19% and Coherent 5.83%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 1.11%, and across the large-cap universe 291 stocks advanced against 215 decliners. Pressure in communication services came from telecom and cable: Verizon, which reported before the open, slid 3.49% and Charter dropped 5.92%. The communication services fund is now down 5.67% over five sessions; this week's earnings from the sector's biggest names will show whether the split holds.
