What It Shows
All four major indices closed higher, led by the Nasdaq 100 at 1.27%, while the Dow Jones barely moved with a 0.06% gain. Beneath the surface the rally was thin: across the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Dow universe, 250 stocks advanced and 258 declined. Technology did the heavy lifting, with the sector fund up 1.70% and AI infrastructure names such as Nebius, Astera Labs and Dell among the top gainers. At the other end, energy fell 2.05% as crude oil slipped 1.41%, and refiners like Valero and Marathon Petroleum took steep losses. Boeing's 10.69% drop on its earnings day also held the Dow back. The question for the coming sessions is whether stocks outside tech join the advance.
