What It Shows

All eight of the day's biggest decliners were chip, memory and data-center hardware makers, led by Sandisk's 22.26% drop and Micron's 17.46% slide. Selling concentrated in the stocks most tied to AI infrastructure: the technology fund fell 8.00% and the Nasdaq 100 lost 6.49%. ARM, which reported earnings, dropped 13.08%. The pressure spread well beyond tech, with 11 of 11 sectors closing lower and 432 stocks in the universe falling against just 76 gainers, while gold edged up 0.81%. The Nasdaq 100 is now down 9.55% over five sessions. The next thing to watch is whether chip selling eases and how the rest of earnings season reshapes expectations for AI spending.
