Nvidia Lines Up $500B in Outside Capital; Intel Prices $20B at $95
Nvidia handed the bill for the AI buildout to Wall Street. The company said Monday it is establishing independent compute-financing platforms alongside Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR, aiming to mobilize more than $500 billion of third-party capital. Nvidia is contributing technology rather than cash — the idea is to turn GPUs into an investable asset class that throws off long-duration, usage-linked revenue and can be transferred from one customer to another. The agreements are still subject to final documentation.
The market did not buy the good news. Nvidia fell 2.4% to roughly $218, erasing about $130 billion of market value in a single session. The mechanism behind the skepticism is circularity: Nvidia helps its customers raise debt, and that debt comes back as chip orders — reopening the question of how much of the demand the company is financing itself. Morningstar's Mike Coop invoked 1999 in flagging concentration risk.
