After-Hours Trading
Market Mechanics
After-hours trading is buying and selling after the regular session closes at 4:00 p.m.
New York time, typically until 8:00 p.m. Many companies report earnings in exactly this window, so sharp moves are common. As in the pre-market, liquidity is thin, spreads are wide, and prices do not reliably predict the next day's open.
